Position Summary: The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) works with the CEO and Board of Directors and is responsible for budgeting, cost analysis, cost management, revenue forecasting, information technology, operations, government grant reporting and funding proposals for the agency. This strategic role requires oversight of staff, collaborating well with peers and colleagues within the organization, and requires a strong level of strategic decision-making ability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares budgets to be approved by the CEO and BOD stating the goals, objectives and budgetary requirements for the organization to achieve mission related activities.
  • Provides oversight for and manages all budgets, forecasts and internal financial plans and processes.
  • Leads and manages all areas of accounting operations, including monthly and annual close processes, and account receivables/payables.
  • Monitors the governmental and foundation budgeting and invoicing, and revenue cycle.
  • Oversees long and short-term investments and acts as the liaison for the Investment Committee and the Audit and Finance Committees.
  • Maintains banking relationships in the best interest of the Agency.
  • Assures compliance with all reporting regulations of both governmental and private funding sources. Ensures regulatory and corporate compliance regarding all financial functions.
  • Manages all tax planning and compliance with all required US federal, state, local, payroll, property and other applicable taxes and all tax filings.
  • In collaboration with the CEO, represents the agency in all financial dealings and relationships with the external parties, including but not limited to the accounting firm performing agency annual audit and auditors from funding sources.
  • Ensures that the financials are accurate and reporting is timely, providing management with the best information possible for decision support and results tracking
  • Oversees tax compliance including sales, income and property as applicable.
  • Coordinates and controls financial activities within the accounting department and throughout the agency.
  • Conducts ongoing analysis of financial operations and establishes and integrates the financial plan of operation (short and long-term) compatible with agency objectives.
  • Responsible for maintenance of records and procedures to adequately safeguard the assets of the Agency.
  • Manages and develops employees through appropriate management practices, creates a climate that motivates employees to achieve high performance, establishes clear directions, coaches employees, provides feedback, and builds commitment with staff.
  • Guides financial decisions and activities by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Establishes and executes roadmap for financial systems including leading the implementation of additional financial system modules and improvements to internal processes.
  • Functions as primary contact with external auditors, bankers, and tax advisers. Ensures timely and accurate audits, working with auditors and other outside agencies, such as accrediting bodies, for periodic reviews, as needed.
  • Provides advice and counsel regarding financial issues, including budget variances, and financial controls, to the CEO, Finance Committee, Audit Committee, Board of Directors and the senior leadership team.
  • Provides leadership to focus on long-range solutions for cost-effective support, encouraging excellence in the Department staff, and models behaviors and attitudes for a progressive Financial Department.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Six (6) to Eight (8) years of experience in managing accounting/finance programs.
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, cost management, governmental and foundation budgeting and invoicing, and revenue cycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise others, set departmental and organizational goals, support and evaluate colleagues and reports, and maintain high morale and productivity.
  • Demonstrated success managing revenue and maintaining effective systems of internal control.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with proven track record of executing key initiatives.
  • Advanced experience in Excel.
  • Experienced in Financial Edge preferred.
  • Passion for the mission of The Family Place.
