Job Description

Overview

CFR's David Rockefeller Studies Program is one of the country's largest foreign policy think tanks with a widely respected and influential research staff. The Director of Studies office manages and administers staffing, budgeting, and developing and implementing departmental procedures for the Studies Program. The deputy director will work under the direction of the senior vice president and the managing director for studies operations to help support the wide range of department activities.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Working to build a collegial and collaborative culture within Studies and more broadly across CFR, including meeting with Studies department staff regularly to answer and resolve questions, including, but not limited to, professional development, roundtables, budgets, and various CFR technology and procedures.
  • In conjunction with Director of Studies staff and others, developing and implementing Studies policies and procedures to ensure smooth running of the department.
  • Working collaboratively with other departments on the implementation of new technologies, including digital products, and other initiatives.
  • Overseeing onboarding and training for new employees, including interviewing finalist candidates and reviewing testing for approximately ten to twenty positions a year, as well as administering the initial and annual performance review process in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Working proactively and collaboratively with others to strengthen employee effectiveness and help resolve employee relations issues.
  • Managing all junior and mid-level staffing arrangements.
  • Performing other related duties as needed.

Qualifications

Education

BA degree with high academic credentials, and/or strong experience in a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of 7 or more years nonprofit management experience. Some human resources experience preferred.
  • Strong project management experience, including the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work well independently and be a proactive and collaborative member of a team.

Compensation and Benefits

The full-time annual compensation range for this position is $100,000 – $120,000 depending on experience.
