Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Material Industrial Engineer that will be responsible for strategy, investment planning, design, and execution of warehouse compression projects, and material flow improvements. Primary focus will be to optimize material processes and material automation, labor, storage, & flow utilizing GM systems and strategies including the Global Material Optimization System (GMOS), Lean Material Strategies (LMS), and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS). Key deliverables will be to develop and execute all phases of material planning to create the most efficient, leanest designs for the entire GM Enterprise.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables

• Identify and eliminate waste in entire value chain that includes material flow, deploying material automation (AME/AMR), material routings & mobile equipment, layout development, container development, storage space, kitting & sequence planning, small lot strategy, etc.
• Optimize floor space, materials personnel, and equipment.
• Improve route planning, dock strategies, and material flow.
• Develop layout and processes that reduce cost and achieve operational efficiencies.
• Provide technical support and issue resolution assistance to the plant materials team.
• Analyze existing operations and propose continuous improvements (CI)
• Education / Work Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering
• 6+ Years Industrial Engineering experience in Materials Department
• Future program launch/execution experience will be preferred.

• Skills:

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must be Proficient with Autocad & Productivity Job Study tools like factory flow.
  • Knowledge of work measurement/work standards, ergonomic principles, material optimization, and facility layout.
  • Knowledge of basic manufacturing and assembly processes
  • Primary Location/Job Type/Period: GM Warren Technical Center (on contract for 1 year starting immediately with high probability of extension up to 3 years)
