The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is seeking a Certified Nurse Midwife for its Generalist Division. Candidates should have an interest in midwifery care and academic medicine. Those with previous experience in providing prenatal care and attending births in an academic medical center are especially encouraged to apply. This position will be 100% clinical with teaching responsibilities and located at the West Chester Medical campus.

Primary responsibilities include obstetrical and gynecological care in a clinical practice that provides 24/7 labor and delivery coverage and in-hospital deliveries. CNM will work collaboratively with OB/GYN Generalist Physicians to provide evidence-based comprehensive, and personalized care to patients.

Essential Functions

  • Prenatal and post-partum care of pregnant patients.
  • Well gynecologic care.
  • Triage, assessment, diagnosis and management of patients on labor and delivery.
  • Collaborate with other providers and members of the health care team in delivery of care and make appropriate referrals when needed.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Educate patients and families about medical conditions and treatment plans.
  • Facilitate staff, patient, and family decision making using evidence-based practice.
  • Participate in education of nurse practitioners, nurse practitioner students, residents, and medical students.
  • Perform history and physical examinations in the outpatient setting; write progress notes and procedure notes.
  • Perform office-based procedures within the scope of practice.
  • Prescribe necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, and complete in a timely fashion per department standards.
  • Seek the consult of supervising physicians when needed and participate in case/chart review.
  • Participate in quality and safety initiatives.
  • Complete all trainings in a timely fashion.

Required Education

Master's Degree in Nursing with specialization in Nursing Midwifery and graduation from an ANA approved Nurse Practitioner Program.

Required Trainings/Certifications

  • Active Ohio APRN/CNM license with prescriptive authority.
  • Active Certified Nurse Midwife Board Certification.

Required Experience

  • Three (3) years of nursing experience.
  • Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.
