Summary

About The Role

The Area Business Leader (ABL) is an enterprise thinker responsible for directing a team of Territory Account Specialists. Through regular facetoface infield interactions, the ABL mentors their team to work crossfunctionally with Healthcare Providers, Key Accounts and Systems of Care (SoC) to identify shared priorities, deliver clinical value and provide Novartis resource messaging in a patientcentered approach, thereby establishing Novartis as a preferred customer partner. The ABL instills a culture of highperformance and accountability that encourages and motivates the team to complete the brand strategy and tactics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit, develop, retain, mentor, and lead a diverse team to deliver on strategic sales objectives, communicating and supervising KPIs, and engaging all levels of performance.
  • Model a shared vision, communicate clear expectations, promote an environment of accountability, and enable others to act, optimizing or advancing processes.
  • Monitor and mentor Territory Account Specialists to ensure effective orchestration of the total account call, coordinating deployment resources to meet customer needs.
  • Develop, implement, and cultivate a customercentric business plan in collaboration with crossfunctional partners to optimize customer experience and product demand.
  • Serve as a member of the regional leadership team, supporting overall regional goals, business execution, and culture.
  • Embed a hardworking, customercentric culture where teams take effective resultsoriented action and encourage collaboration and problemsolving.
  • Possess indepth knowledge of clinical, access, and reimbursement, eye for business, territory management, and omnichannel marketing tools to mentor the team during field contacts and oneonone sessions.
  • Leverage analytics platforms to advise decisions, identify areas of risk and opportunity, and ensure deployment of strategic resources.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelors degree from a 4year college or university.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, healthcare, or similarly structured industries with large, geographically dispersed sales teams. Eligible candidates include internal sales associates who completed the Novartis Emerging Leaders Development Program (ELDP) or have 2+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech sales management experience within the last two years.
  • 2+ years experience as a firstline sales manager with strong, demonstrated strategic thinking and enterprise mindset.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in sophisticated selling environments, with a record of sales awards or top performance ratings.
  • Proven trackrecord of attracting, developing, and retaining diverse talent and building highperforming teams. Proven ability to drive sales performance and execute strategy in matrixed, multiregional environments.
  • Experience managing field organizations through change, innovation, or growth is highly valued.
  • Candidate must reside within territory or within a reasonable daily commuting distance of 100 miles from the territory border. Must be able to travel 6080% across a broad geography, have a valid drivers license, and be able to drive or fly within the territory.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience leading sales teams in large practices, hospitals, IDNs & SoC customers, with understanding of reimbursement for outpatient and inpatient markets.

Compensation Summary

Area Business Leader I: $138,600 $257,400 per year
Area Business Leader II: $138,600 $257,400 per year
Senior Area Business Leader: $160,300 $297,700 per year

Performancebased cash incentive and eligibility for annual equity awards, depending on level. USbased employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, including health, life and disability benefits, a 401(k) with company contribution and match, and generous paid time off.
