Rheumatology Area Business Leader Southwest

Base pay range: $138,600.00/yr - $297,700.00/yr

Summary

This is a field-based and remote opportunity supporting a sales team in an assigned geography. The Area Business Leader (ABL) directs a team of Territory Account Specialists to deliver tailored customer experiences based on account and Health Care Provider (HCP) needs and clinical dialogue that compels action to generate demand. Through regular in-field interactions, the ABL mentors cross-functional collaboration with Healthcare Providers, Key Accounts and Systems of Care to identify priorities, deliver clinical value, and provide Novartis resource messaging in a patient-centered approach, establishing Novartis as a preferred partner. The ABL champions high performance and accountability to complete brand strategy and tactics.

About The Role

  • Recruit, develop, retain, mentor, and lead a diverse team to deliver strategic sales objectives, establish accountability for KPIs, and engage all levels of performance.
  • Model a shared vision, clear expectations, accountability, and process optimization.
  • Monitor and mentor Territory Account Specialists to coordinate resources, plan, communicate, and meet customer needs with vitality.
  • Develop and implement a customer-centric business plan with cross-functional partners to optimize customer experience and product demand.
  • Serve as a member of the regional leadership team contributing to regional goals, business execution, team development, and culture.
  • Foster a customer-centric culture where teams act as business owners and are encouraged to speak up, solve problems, collaborate, experiment, and learn from failures.
  • Apply knowledge in clinical, access and reimbursement, territory management, and omni-channel marketing tools to develop and mentor team members during regular field contacts and one-on-one sessions.
  • Use analytics to guide decisions and identify risks and opportunities, ensuring effective deployment of resources across face-to-face meetings, omni-channel resources, and cross-functional partners.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, healthcare, or similarly structured industries with large, geographically dispersed sales teams; other complex sales environments may be considered.
  • 2+ years experience as a first-line sales manager with strategic thinking and enterprise mindset.
  • Proven leadership in sophisticated selling environments with demonstrated success.
  • Track record of attracting, developing, and retaining diverse talent and driving sales in matrixed, multi-regional environments.
  • Experience managing field organizations through change, innovation, or growth.
  • Must reside within the territory or within a reasonable daily commuting distance of 100 miles from the territory border. 60-80% travel expected; valid drivers license required.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience leading sales teams in promotion to large practices, hospitals, IDNs, and SoC customers with understanding of reimbursement for outpatient and in-patient settings.

Area Business Leader II

  • 4+ years experience as a first-line sales manager with strategic thinking and enterprise mindset in relevant industries.

Senior Area Business Leader

  • 8+ years experience as a first-line sales manager with strategic thinking and enterprise mindset in relevant industries.

Novartis Compensation Summary

The salary for this position is expected to range between the levels below; final salary is determined by experience and may be reviewed periodically. Eligible employees receive a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on level, may be considered for annual equity awards. US-based employees receive a benefits package including health, life and disability benefits, 401(k) with company match, and paid time off.

  • Area Business Leader II: $138,600 $257,400 per year
  • Senior Area Business Leader: $160,300 $297,700 per year
