Staff Accountant

Summary:

As a Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for supporting the accounting department with day-to-day financial activities across multiple construction divisions, including job costing, general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and month-end close processes. This role ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and provides essential support for decision-making in a fast-paces, project driven environment.

Responsibilities:

1. Financial Close & Reporting:

• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
  
• Generate project-related financial reports and assist the Controller in providing monthly reporting packages for ownership.
• Prepare journal entries and adjustments for recurring and project-specific transactions.

2. General Ledger & Reconciliations:

• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank, credit card, and intercompany transactions.
• Reconcile job cost reports to ensure accuracy between the field system (e.g. BuildOps) and accounting system (e.g. QuickBooks/Sage).
• Monitor and reconcile retention receivables and payables.

3. Job Costing & Project Accounting:

• Track job costs and allocations for labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead.
  
• Assist with AP/AR review and corrections as needed for job costing accuracy.
• Coordinate with Project Managers and Division Leads to ensure financial data is aligned with project performance.

4. Tax, Audit & Compliance:

• Prepare sales and use tax filings and assist with year-end audits and tax documentation.
  

5. Asset & Process Management:

• Support inventory, WIP schedules, and fixed asset tracking.
• Identify and help implement process improvements in financial workflows and internal controls.

6. Miscellaneous Tasks:

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred (or equivalent work experience).
• 2-4 years of progressive accounting experience; construction-based industries a must.
• Familiarity with job costing and percent-complete revenue recognition is a strong plus.
• Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage 100 Contractor, or similar.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  
• Strong data entry skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
• Familiarity with basic office equipment and technology.
  
• Reliable and adaptable, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
